Genre Discussion #3: Young Adult

Unlike the last two segments of this, I have a wider range of material to cover. I want to talk about young adult for a couple of reasons. The first being just how popular it is in our culture; Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games, Divergent, and the Percy Jackson series are just a couple of examples of huge YA franchises. Young adult is huge genre, with many, many sub genres. Today I'm going to give a few recommendations, in the future I may to a part two due to the fact it's such a large topic.

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Mass- I somewhat hesitate to call this YA, due to some of the content, it could fall under a New Adult genre, but I don't personally see any reason a younger audience couldn't read this series.
  • Whisper by Phoebe Kitandis- There's no question in my mind that this is YA, but it's one of the best YA books I've ever read.
  • Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon- If you read my previous post you'll remember I recommended this author for her adult PNR series, well if you want to read her YA series set in the same universe here you go.
  • Wings of Arian by Devri Walls- One of the best high fantasy YA reads ever. I need not say more.

Authors
  • John Green
  • Tera Lynn Childs
  • Rick Riordan
I know this blog post is super short, but I've been crazy busy. Tell me about your favorite YA books in the comments.
