Man, I'm just coming up with new things to talk about left and right. I don't know how often I will actually post in this segment, but when a thought strikes me I'll let you know. As you can tell from the title we're going to be talking about different genres. Up first: Reverse Harem. I'm sure many of you are familiar with the idea of a harem. You probably think of some Sultan in the middle east with either multiple wives or concubines, RH is quite a bit different from this preconception. Let's get into it.
First let's talk definition: A Reverse Harem is a woman in a relationship with three or more people. I know some reader's only consider RH as a woman and men, however I would consider it an RH if another woman was included. Basically it is polyandry (one woman with multiple husbands). Some readers of the genre may disagree, and that's fine, but this is my opinion. Some Reverse Harem's are Adult, some New Adult, and others Young Adult, this isn't a small genre with only one type of book. It's wide and many, many people enjoy reading and writing it.
Now if you've ever watched Kamigami No Asobi, Ouran High School Host Club, or Yona of the Dawn; you have some idea about this genre. For the record all three of these anime's are great, and you should definitely go check them out. If you've ever read Laurell K Hamilton's novels (I have not), her Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series are, to my understanding, Reverse Harem. They've received negative reviews from readers due to the books turning erotic later in the series obviously I do not have an opinion here as I haven't read the books. Now that you have some understanding, allow me to delve into my feelings about this genre, and as a writer if you'll be seeing this from me.
Allow me to say this, I always keep an open mind when I can. Some will have rude things to say after reading this post, and I respect their right to have an opinion, I can't help that they cannot see love in many different ways (wow, Taila, not passive aggressive at all.). Shaming anyone for what type of fiction they read, or even the types of relationships they have is wrong. I do not consider myself particularly monogamous, I am not going to tie myself to one way of life, if something else would be better for me. Love is love, whether it's between two people of the same gender, four people who want to build a family together, or two straight people who want to live the American dream. As long as you aren't harming anyone, be who you are. I do have several Reverse Harem novels planned, the first coming out in December or January of. I hope you will enjoy them, and give them a fair chance to amuse you.
I have read MANY Reverse Harem novels, some good, some mediocre, some bad. I could not recommend picking up this genre, at least once, anymore than I do. It's a freeing experience to read a book that is different from the way you live your life, this is true of all books. If after listening to my tirade you find yourself interested in reading a Reverse Harem novel you can find some my favorites below!
Recommendations!
- Make Me A Wish by K.B Ladnier and Anita Maxwell- Jinn, hot men, and more. Plus it's set in Tennessee so I'm totally on board. Book one ended to a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to get my hands on book two.
- Just Her Luck by Jeanette Lynn- I read this entire book in one sitting, and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. Standalone, Contemporary.
- Trickery by Jane Washington and Jaymin Eve- Willa makes me laugh, her men make me scream, there's nothing more I could ask for. Both of these ladies have other books (Reverse Harem and otherwise), that are also amazing.
- The Third Throne Series by Tabitha Barrett- Love this series, so much so I don't have more words for it.
- Her Mates by Tamara White- As many of you know by now, I am a huge freak for some werewolves, Tamara does it so well. And she has more than one RH series.
- Groupie by CM Stunich- This trilogy is one of my all time favorite Reverse Harem series, so much so I'm rereading it. I almost never reread books. For those of you who are not sexy time readers, this has quite a bit of sexy times.
- A Demon's Blade by C.C English-Rose- I seriously can't wait for book two, so fabulous. Fun read, without being silly.
- Bloodlust by Auryn Hadley- This entire series is the best. I cried so hard at one point I had to stop reading. The author has built a world I am entranced by. I will say these book deal with some heavy subject matter, quite of war and prejudice, so be prepared. Six books so far, with number seven coming out soon.
Honestly I'm going to stop naming specific series here, because I don't want this blog post to be a novel all it's own. If you want to check out some more I'll list some more authors, and leave a link to the Facebook Group page so you can check them out. l.
- Lyn Forester
- LA Kirk
- Rebecca Royce
- Lane Whitt
- TL Reeve
- RM Walker
- Eve Langlais
- And too many more to list!

As a reminder: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
